Shillong, Mar 24: The Hynniewtrep Border Dispute Redressal Forum (HBDRF) has announced an agitation aimed at drawing attention to the ongoing border dispute in Meghalaya.
Thomas Passah, the leader of HBDRF, stated that multiple representations have been submitted to the government, with little to no response received. He said a significant issue is the government’s failure to recognise villages notified by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC). Without recognition, residents are unable to apply for essential documents, creating a predicament that individuals from Assam are reportedly exploiting, he said.
As a direct response to the government’s slow progress, HBDRF has resolved to conduct an agitation, with specifics yet to be announced.
Passah also said that the forum will support the Block I residents for a boycott of the upcoming Karbi Anglong and Assam general elections, as well as the MP election. Passah accused certain national political parties of attempting to sway voters in border villages to participate in the elections.
