Shillong, Mar 18: The state government today decided to revoke the ban on mobile internet in the Garo Hills region.
The ban had been in place since last week’s communal violence that rocked the region. The internet ban was imposed in all five districts of Garo Hills on March 11.
The suspension was imposed as a precautionary measure following incidents of violence that led to the deaths of two persons and unrest in parts of the region, particularly in Tura, where clashes, vandalism and damage to property were reported.
Meanwhile, West Garo Hills will continue to face a curfew, with it extended by the District Magistrate for a further day, from 6pm on March 19 to 6am on March 20. Curfew will be relaxed from 6am to 6pm on March 19.
