Shillong, Mar 18: Another case of alleged human trafficking was busted recently with the rescue of two teenage girls from Meghalaya in the national capital.
The rescue was carried out by members of the New Delhi unit of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and the Special Police Unit for North East Region (SPUNER).
The KSU said that the duo were lured into leaving for New Delhi on the pretext of getting employment.
The victims were taken to the national capital by another person from Meghalaya who is working in Delhi without the consent or knowledge of their parents.
“They were told that they would be working as domestic help but when they reached Delhi they were taken to a spa in Haryana, where they were forced into the sex trade,” the KSU claimed.
Scared, the teenagers contacted their families back home and told them about their ordeal. The family members reached out to the KSU for assistance. The latter then contacted SPUNER and the teenagers were rescued from Haryana.
The SPUNER rescue team consisted of Sub-Insp Ngalung Wung, Asst SI Naveen Kumar, Head Constable Satish Kumar and Women Constable Lalrinhluni.
The girls are to return to Meghalaya shortly. The KSU thanked Khliehriat MLA Kyrmen Shylla for paying for the girls’ flight tickets home.
