Shillong, Mar 15: A special session of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) will be held on Monday after 21 MDCs submitted a motion of no-confidence in the Chief Executive Member Albinush Marak.
The motion was submitted to Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar, who then summoned the special session.
According to a notification issued by the District Council Affairs Department, the Governor received a petition signed by 21 GHADC MDCs on Saturday, alleging that Marak no longer enjoys the support of the Executive Council.
The GHADC consists of 30 MDCs, including 29 elected representatives and one nominated member.
The council session will be convened at 11am at the District Council Hall in Tura.
The session has been called to conduct proceedings under Rule 22(1) and to take up any subsequent business required in accordance with the rules governing the autonomous district councils.
The Governor has also authorised the Chairman of the GHADC to preside over the session in line with relevant rules.
