Shillong, Feb 18: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) CEM Winston Tony Lyngdoh today informed that the district council has issued 73 fresh trading licenses, bringing the total to 5, 362, including renewals.
Responding to queries on the first day of the KHADC budget session, Lyngdoh informed that in Ri-Bhoi, 689 licenses have been issued, with over 300 renewed and 200 pending licenses.
Lyngdoh also announced that the executive committee has blacklisted Northeastern Security Service (NES) for misusing a trading license at NIT Sohra. The NES license at Laitkor has also been cancelled.
He informed that the council plans to conduct a checking drive soon to detect non-Khasi taxi drivers’ trading licenses to ensure they have valid documents.
He also informed that the council has not issued any fresh licenses to the non-Khasi taxi drivers even though there are complications as most of the owners are locals, while the labour license issue remains to be looked into.
Responding to MDC Ricky Shullai’s query, Lyngdoh said only five fresh licenses were issued in Laban-Mawprem. Shullai raised concerns over revenue leakage from unregistered businesses in his constituency and those threatening to acquire licenses from municipal authorities instead of the council
