Shillong, Feb 13: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) is celebrating after 35 students have cleared the University Grants Commission (UGC) National Eligibility Test (NET) examination in December.
The 35 students are from various departments, representing English, Political Science, Commerce, Education, Sociology, Social Work, Economics, Law, Library and Information Science, Rural Development, etc.
As per the university’s ‘Payback Policy’, all students qualifying for UGC NET are eligible to receive 100 percent refund of their admission and semester fees for the entire course as a reward for their achievement, an initiative that makes USTM one of the very few institutions in the country to offer such encouragement for academic excellence, a release stated today.
“The success of our students in UGC NET is a reflection of the academic discipline, dedication of faculty, and the learning environment we have nurtured at USTM,” the university’s Chancellor, Mahbubul Hoque, said. “We are proud to see our students excel at the national level and bring laurels to the university. Such achievements reinforce our vision of building a knowledge-driven society through quality education and research.”
USTM Vice-Chancellor Prof GD Sharma, meanwhile, said, “Qualifying UGC NET is a significant milestone for any scholar. The performance of our students across multiple disciplines demonstrates the strength of our academic mentoring and the seriousness with which our students pursue their goals.”
