Shillong, Feb 12: National People’s Party (NPP) today welcomed popular Dima Hasao leader Daniel Langthasa into the party during a large public convention held at Dishru Field, Maibang.

Langthasa was formally inducted into the NPP by its National President and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, in the presence of senior party leaders and prominent regional leaders.

In a statement the NPP said Langthasa joined the party along with a large number of his supporters, marking a significant political development in Dima Hasao and strengthening the party’s growing presence in the region.

Addressing the gathering, NPP National President Conrad K. Sangma said the induction reflects the growing trust of people in the party’s vision of development rooted in respect for tribal identity, indigenous rights, and grassroots aspirations.

He emphasised that the National People’s Party remains committed to empowering indigenous communities while ensuring inclusive development, improved connectivity, and greater opportunities for youth across the Northeast.

Sangma also reiterated the party’s commitment to the vision of a stronger and more connected “One Northeast,” where states and communities work together for shared progress while preserving their unique cultural heritage and identity.

Party leaders present at the convention noted that the event symbolised a strong resurgence of the NPP in the Dima Hasao region and expressed confidence that the people would continue to support a political platform that prioritises identity, dignity, unity, and development.

The National People’s Party expressed gratitude to the people of Dima Hasao for their overwhelming participation and reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with local leadership to address the aspirations and developmental needs of the region.

The induction ceremony was attended by top party functionaries including National Working President James K. Sangma, Vice President Hemochandra Singh, Founder of the Tipra Motha Party Pradyot Manikya Debbarma, and former minister and leader from Nagaland Mmhonlumo Kikon, along with several senior leaders of the party from across the Northeast.
