Shillong, Jan 27: The business advisory committee (BAC) of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly today decided that the Assembly’s budget session will be held from February 16 to 27. The actual budget will be presented on February 20.
The meeting was chaired by Speaker Thomas A Sangma and was attended by the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who holds charge of Parliamentary Affairs, in person. Leader of the Opposition Dr Mukul Sangma and committee member Paul Lyngdoh MLA participated in the meeting online. Senior civil servants were also present.
Informing about the session details, the Speaker stated that the 10-day session will comprise seven days of government business and three days of private members’ business. The state budget will be presented on February 20, the fifth day of the session.
Sangma added that sitting hours may be extended, if required, to enable members to effectively participate in the proceedings of the house. He also informed that on the day the supplementary demand for grants is taken up, the sitting of the house will be extended to 3pm.
