Shillong, Jan 22: The Dorbar Shnong Lachaumiere has resolved not to accept any application with incorrect spelling of the locality.
According to the dorbar, some residents continue to misspell the name as “Lachumiere”. “This incorrect spelling has appeared in applications, addresses, paperwork, and signboards,” it said.
In a notice, the dorbar informed that a general meeting to discuss on the incorrect spelling of the locality was held last year and decided to request all residents to use the correct spelling ‘Lachaumiere’ in all applications.
The word Lachaumiere is derived from the French term La Chaumière, meaning “The Thatched Roof”, which reflects the true heritage and identity of our locality, the dorbar said.
Residents have been urged to share the information with family members and neighbours and to take pride in telling others about the true name and meaning of Lachaumiere, ensuring that future generations will follow and understand its heritage.
