Editor,
It has been almost one month since the publication of my letter, under the caption of “Aadhaar, the tower of Babel?” (HP December 12 ,2025) in which l have, so to speak, taken to task the Bank of Baroda, located at Lamavilla, Shillong for demanding compulsory submission of Aadhaar testimonial for opening of savings bank account. In this context,l have drawn a stark parallel with another public sector bank, Bank of India, which is positioned within a stone’s throw from this Bank of Baroda , while the former doesn’t demand Aadhaar regime, but the latter affirmed that Aadhaar is a non-negotiable document for opening of any bank account.
Apprehensively, I have been anticipating that Bank of Baroda would have conveniently and convincingly issued a rejoinder against my letter in question in less than no time but my expectation has been belied to date. Hence, as a natural corollary, it may be inferred that Bank of Baroda’s pestering on Aadhaar registration is self-evidently unjustifiable and becomes no more than a culture of harassment to the general public at large!
Be that as it may, this incident ought to serve as a stark caveat to all banking institutions, or for that matter any public or private agencies that harass the gullible and impressionable people for Aadhaar documentation, who may blindly follow the directive sans questioning!
