Shillong, Dec 17: An awareness cum beneficiary registration camp on scientific goat rearing was organised at Syadrit village under Umsning Block, Ri Bhoi District.
The programme was conducted under the ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Goat Improvement (Assam Hill Goat Field Unit), Goat Research Station, Assam Veterinary and Fishery University (AVFU) in collaboration with ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), and Ri Bhoi Area Welfare Association.
The programme marked the launch of the Goat Improvement Project in the area, with emphasis on scientific goat rearing practices and registration of new beneficiaries.
Professor-cum-Chief Scientist, Goat Research Station, AVFU, Dr. Deepak Bhuyan delivered technical lectures on improved goat management, breeding, feeding and health care practices.
Dr. Arpana Das, Professor-cum-Principal Investigator highlighted the role of goat farming in livelihood enhancement of rural households.
District Veterinary Officer Dr. Pauline Lyngdoh, Dr. Moloy Sarmah Baruah, from ICAR-KVK Ri Bhoi and Dr. Perona Patuwari from Goat Research Station, AVFU, provided hands-on training and shared practical insights on scientific goat rearing to enhance productivity and farmers’ income.
A total of 84 farmers from the surrounding villages participated in the programme and expressed keen interest in adopting scientific goat farming under the project. The programme concluded with the distribution of farm utensils, veterinary medicines and mineral mixtures to the participating farmers.
