Nongpoh, Dec 9: A knowledge-sharing session on marketing and export strategies was organised by the Development Commissioner Handloom under the Ministry of Textiles today for the handloom sector.
The programme aimed at benefiting weavers and artisans across Northeast India, was held at the Integrated Textile and Tourism Centre, Mawdiangum, Nongpoh.
Weavers, spinners, and entrepreneurs from various Northeastern states participated in the session.
Resource persons from diverse fields gave their presentations on strengthening market linkages and enhancing export opportunities for handloom products. The discussions focused on empowering weavers and entrepreneurs and improving their socio-economic conditions across the region.
The session also underscored the need for continued support from both the State and Central governments to further uplift the handloom community and promote sustainable growth in the sector.
S. Bandyopadhyay, Zonal Director (East Zone), WSC Guwahati, and Dipika Lyngdoh, Zonal Officer (Weaving), Department of Textiles, highlighted key government initiatives and shared insights on marketing and export strategies to boost the handloom sector.
