Shillong, Nov 30: The National Highway Demand Committee (NHDC) of South West Khasi Hills has been unable to secure a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong (who also holds the Public Works Department portfolio) despite several attempts.
The NHDC wants to meet Tynsong to discuss SWKH’s decade-long plea for a Shillong-Mawkyrwat-Ranikor National Highway.
NHDC chairman Kynpham V Kharlyngdoh stated that appeals on October 7 and 24 went unanswered, even after follow-ups with the Deputy CM’s office.
While supporting the state’s plan to upgrade the Weiloi-Mawkyrwat lane, the NHDC insists on a full National Highway from Lad Mawreng to Ranikor for better connectivity. Kharlyngdoh highlighted the irony of roads granted National Highway status in 2017 elsewhere are complete, but SWKH has seen no progress. “The Ranikor-Nongjri road in South Garo Hills is done, but our district capital (Mawkyrwat) remains disconnected from Shillong [which is] surprising,” he said.
