Nongpoh, Nov 21: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, today promised that the Umsning Patarim sports ground would be developed to a suitably modern degree, a longstanding aspiration of the people and the local Umsning Sports and Cultural Club.
Sangma visited the ground in person today to get a sense of the concerns and requirements. Umsning SCC has repeatedly approached the government through the Sports Department to seek assistance for upgrading the ground to a proper standard but, despite numerous assurances over the years, no concrete support has been received from the government.
Addressing the gathering, the CM assured that he would personally take responsibility to oversee and initiate the development work. He stated that the ground is indeed important and that efforts would begin with key components such as boundary fencing, a VIP gallery, and overall improvement of the playing field. He further assured that he would work diligently to fulfil the aspirations of the people and the sports club.
Sangma was accompanied on the inspection by cabinet minister Sosthenes Sohtun, Umsning MLA Dr Celestine Lyngdoh and others.
