Shillong, Sep 21: In a landmark moment for Khasi literature and scholarship, Prof DR Lyngdoh Nonglait has translated Aristotle’s Poetics into the Khasi language.
The book, entitled Ka Poetics u Aristotle ha ka Khasi bad kiwei de ki Jingthoh Wad Bniah, was formally released recently by the Chief Executive Member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Shemborlang Rynjah at a special function held in Shillong Commerce College, Shillong.
The translation brings Aristotle’s foundational work on literary criticism into the Khasi language for the first time, making its ideas accessible to scholars, students and readers of Khasi literature. Alongside Poetics, the book also includes other critical essays, offering new perspectives for literary studies in the region.
The event was organised under the banner of the Khasi Authors’ Society as part of its 46th anniversary celebrations.
