Shillong, Sep 13: The Meghalaya Editors and Publishers Association (MEPA) has expressed grief at the passing of former Chief Minister, Dr. DD Lapang.
According to MEPA, Lapang, he was the founding president of the association.
The MEPA members held an emergent meeting to condole his demise.
During the meeting the members paid rich tribute to Lapang, recalling his invaluable role as a mentor and guide to the media fraternity.
“His statesmanship, humility, and vision for human development left a lasting impact on society, earning him the unique distinction of serving as Chief Minister of Meghalaya on four occasions across different tenures,” the MEPA stated.
While sending its condolences to the bereaved family, MEPA acknowledged Lapang’s enduring support and contributions to both the media and the wider community.
Before assuming the role of MEPA’s first President, the former Chief Minister made a lasting contribution to the media fraternity as the founding publisher of U Peitngor, a Khasi newspaper.
Strengthening journalism Lapang provided Shillong Press Club with a dedicated premises in 1992, during his tenure as Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, the National People’s Party (NPP), held a condolence meeting at the party office on Saturday.
“He spoke with courage, led with wisdom, and cared with the heart of a father. To all of us at the NPP, he was more than a leader, he was a thinker, a counselor, and a true mentor, the NPP stated.
