A black banner raised by the Jaiñtia Students Union (JSU) nine months back in protest against the absence of a 108 emergency ambulance service at Nongtalang CHC was taken down today after the demand was fulfilled.
JSU general secretary, Treiborlang Suchen said the demand was made since 2018. For four years the State government did not pay heed to the demand made by the JSU, Ri War Jaiñtia circle even as petitions after petitions were submitted since 2020.
According to circle general secretary, Kerrydiam Lamin the ambulance, which used to station at Nongtalang CHC, was de-assigned in 2014. He said the absence of an ambulance to cater to patients under the Amlarem Civil Sub-division has put residents under great hardships.
He said one of the reasons is that there were less or no emergency calls made for an ambulance. He also urged residents to make use of the free service in times of need especially in ferrying patients in need of life-support.
