Nine people have been arrested by police on suspicion of being involved in an assault on three people at the Nepali Graveyard in Mawbah here.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger, said that yesterday, at around 5:30pm, three people were “severely assaulted” at the graveyard by a group of 30, all of whom were masked.
The reason for the assault is not yet known but Nongtnger said the assailants went there to play football whereas the victims happened to be there too.
The three victims are currently in hospital recovering from their injuries. A case was registered at Lumdiengjri Police Station.
Nongtnger said that further investigations are ongoing. He provided no further details on the victims or suspects.
