Seven pressure groups in East Jaiñtia Hills district have demanded the State government to bring back Ethelbert Kharmalki as the deputy commissioner of the district.
Kharmalki was transferred as secretary of the Mining and Geology department on November 17.
The groups comprising of the EJNC, JSM, KSU, JSU, FKJGP, HNYF and HANM have been airing their opposition to the transfer order.
A meeting of the groups was held yesterday wherein they decided to write to the chief minister to oppose the government’s move, which according to them was unwarranted as his tenure has not ended.
While additional deputy commissioner, SS Syiemlieh has been assigned to look after the district the pressure groups said that district is functioning without a DC.
“If the government decides to send us another deputy commissioner we will continue to intensify our protest,” the group said.
