The UDP has named seven sitting MLAs and five sitting MDCs as candidates for the 2023 Assembly elections in the State.
The first list of 32 candidates was released by the party today at a special gathering held at the party office here. The candidate list was approved by the UDP State election committee.
Among the MLAs who have been given ticket to contest are Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh (Mairang), Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui (Amlarem), Printing and Stationery Minister Brolding Nongsiej (Mawthadraishan), Social Welfare Minister Kyrmen Shylla (Khliehriat), Balajied Kupar Synrem (Shella), Nujorki Sungoh (Mookaiaw) and Pius Marwein (Ranikor). Marwein is also the sitting MDC from Langrin.
The sitting MDCs who got tickets to contest the 2023 Assembly polls include three from Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and two from Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).
KHADC Chief Executive Member Titosstarwell Chyne will contest from Sohra, Jaiaw MDC Paul Lyngdoh will contest from Shillong West and Mitchell Wankhar from Mylliem.
The JHADC MDCs who were allotted UDP tickets are Shangpung MDC J Treilang Suchiang who will contest from Raliang, and Mynsngat-Khanduli MDC Dawan Lyngdoh who will contest from Nartiang.
Former JHADC Chief Executive Member Moonlight Pariat will contest from Jowai constituency.
The former MLAs who got UDP ticket to contest the 2023 polls are former minister H Donkupar Roy Lyngdoh (Sohiong), Jemino Mawthoh (Nongthymmai), Remington Pyngrope (Mawkynrew), Luderberg Ch Momin (Kharkutta) and Ashahel D. Shira (Rajabala)
Three former government officials are also among the UDP nominees for the 2023 polls. They are former Director of Health Services Dr. Aman War (Shillong North), former Assistant Director of Agriculture Department Olan Singh Suin (Mawsynram) and former PWD Executive Engineer Baiahunlang Makdoh (Mawhati).
Further, a physician Dr. Osaphi Smithson Jyrwa will contest from Mawryngkneng while a singer Anthony Kongwang will contest from Pynursla.
The first list of candidates also has the names of Badhok Nongmalieh (Jirang), Sunshine Makri (Umsning), Polestar Nongsiej (Nongstoin).
From Garo Hills, besides former MLAs Luderberg Ch Momin and Ashahel D. Shira, the other candidates include Subrotho G. Marak (Mendipathar), Taposh D. Marak (Resubelpara), Rakman Ch Marak (Bajengdoba), Andreas G. Momin (Rongjeng), Ronald Rikman Marak (Salmanpara) and Kennethson R. Sangma (Dalu).
