Six shops were gutted in a fire that broke out today at Rongmil market in East Garo Hills district.
The incident took place at around 2:30 pm. Though no one was injured an estimation of the damages and economic losses are yet to be fully determined.
Immediately after the fire was reported to the local police outpost, emergency services rushed to the spot to tend to the fire which was extinguished after some effort by the nearby Rongjeng Fire and Emergency Services.
“The fire is suspected to have been started due to a leak in a LPG gas cylinder in one of the shops. The result was that five grocery shops as well as a tea stall have been completely gutted. There were however no casualties during the incident,” superintendent of police, Bruno A Sangma said.
