A lightning strike during a storm last night in the Babadam area under West Garo Hills district is suspected to be behind the killing of at least 6 cows in the village.
The area is about 23km from Tura.
The incident, according to locals, took place during the storm that hit the Garo Hills region with the deaths being discovered by the owner only after the storm subsided. The cows were all tethered together in the cow shed when the accident took place with the cows apparently being killed on the spot.
Confirming the incident, the deputy commissioner of SWGH, Ramakrishna Chitturi, said that a veterinary team would be visiting the affected farmer and conducting an inquiry into the cause of the death of the cattle.
