The East Jaiñtia Hills district administration has selected five villages on a pilot basis for a comprehensive solid waste management project.
The villages are Moolamylliang, Khliehriat West, Khliehriat East, Latyrke and Ladrymbai.
Deputy Commissioner, Abhilash Baranwal informed that the three fold objectives of the programme are zero landfill requirements, eliminating pollution and livelihood creation.
He said that a survey to assess the waste generation and site selection are already complete in these villages.
Informing that an awareness drive was launched in Moolamylliang village yesterday to highlight about the plan and to teach resident about household based segregation he said more than 150 people attended along with the village leaders.
Such awareness programs will be carried out continuously.
