Five more people were arrested by West Khasi Hills police for their involvement in burying their uncle alive at Nongdisong village, 18 kms from Nongstoiñ.
The arrested persons have been identified as Walphanus Marngar (32), Exstarning Marngar (52), Beransius Marngar (30), Kyrshanborlang Marngar (25) and Michalpol Marngar (27).
Police have so far, arrested eight people in connection with the murder. Three were arrested on Saturday last.
West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Herbert G Lyngdoh informed that police are on the lookout for ten more people involved in the case.
Police said all the arrested persons are from Nongdisong village and all are related to the 80-year old, Boris Marngar.
Boris, who hailed from Mawliehbah Mawnar was forcibly taken out from his home on October 6 and kept confined at the house of his niece, Sildaris Marngar before being buried alive the next day at a place called Pordidoh .
The deceased was accused of casting an evil spell on his niece as a result of which she was suffering since the last three months.
The crime came to light after Klanding Sohlangpiaw, the headman of Mawliehbah Mawnar lodged a missing FIR on October 10.
Police said the entire Marngar family was involved in taking the decision to bury Moris accusing him of practicing witchcraft.
Meanwhile, the victim’s body was exhumed by the police in the presence of magistrates this morning.
