Special Operations Team (SOT) personnel of the East Khasi Hills police arrested five men in possession of a country made pistol, ammunition and “incriminating documents” during an operation yesterday.
Police were after Pynshailang Puwein, who was wanted in a Lumdiengjri cheating case. He was apprehended by police while travelling with four others in two separate vehicles, a Maruti Celerio and Maruti Swift. The pistol was of .22 calibre, which was seized along with four rounds of ammunition, the two vehicles, six mobile phones and documents.
A police case has been filed against the six under the Arms Act and other laws at Mawsynram police station.
Puwein (30) is a resident of Shallang in West Khasi Hills. The other four were identified by police as Aidonsing Nongsiej (40) of New Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills, Orally Khardewsaw of Nongkhlaw, Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills, Wanrilang Nongkynrih (33) of Mawlai Mawtawar in Shillong and Mossingstar Nongbri (28) of Massar in Eastern West Khasi Hills.
Further investigation is ongoing.
