Anti-Narcotics Task Force of Ri-Bhoi police intercepted and detained a suspected drug peddler who was transporting a consignment of heroin from Guwahati to Shillong.
Acting on a tip-off, the ANTF team apprehended the suspect and recovered 20 soap boxes containing the contraband.
The heroin weighed approximately 191g.
The suspect, Dipankar Ghosh (35), hails from Upper Jail Road in Shillong. He was detained and will face criminal charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Meanwhile, in two separate operations, the Jorabat police of Assam arrested a marijuana smuggler and three bike thieves.
The smuggler, Bindeshwar Rai (65), is a resident of Vaishali district in Bihar. He was found with 21kg of marijuana and Rs 63,300 in cash. The police have registered an FIR under the NDPS Act and are investigating further.
In the other operation, the Jorabat police arrested three bike thieves, identified as Sonrag Sangma, Jameson Marak and Mukesh Sangma. The police team recovered two Pulsar motorbikes stolen from the Byrnihat area. The police have registered an FIR and are interrogating the suspected bike thieves.
