Students of St Anthony’s College along with members of North-Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) met the college principal Fr Albert Longley Dkhar today, urging him not to force them to wear uniforms.
The fourth semester students have decided that they will not wear the Rs 5,800 uniforms as doing so will only be a “waste” of money for them as they have just one year left in college.
The students said that the college should implement a uniform from the next academic session and there should be prior notice of this before getting students to fill up the college form.
“Those who then join the college would be willing to wear the uniform but for those who don’t, they will seek admission in other colleges,” the students said.
During the meeting with the principal, Fr Albert expressed his inability to take any decision on this matter on his own since it was the decision of the college’s governing body.
In December last year, St Anthony’s administration announced that uniforms will be compulsory for all students except those in their final year.
