The RITI Academy of Visual Arts held a function to bestow the Crystal Gayle Award for Excellence in Visual Arts at a function at Raj Bhavan today.
Wanhi-i Challam, an animation artist from Chilliang Raij in Jowai, was presented with the award by Governor Satya Pal Malik, who was the chief guest.
The Crystal Gayle Award honours and acknowledges excellence in the field of visual arts and practices. The award was conferred in memory of the late Crystal Gayle Kharnaior, a theatre artist who died in a tragic accident outside the Raj Bhavan compound in 2017.
Addressing the gathering, Malik congratulated the Riti Academy for its contribution to the field of visual arts in Meghalaya and said that it is heartening to note that the academy has been emphasising indigenous conceptualisation and attitudes towards arts and literature.
Others who were present included Commissioner and Secretary FR Kharkongor, Secretary to the Governor Pravin Bakshi and Riti’s chief art director Rapahel Warjri.
