While most citizens of the State are demanding better road connectivity, miscreants in West Khasi Hills are indulging in activities that are aimed at stalling a road project.
Today morning, miscreants set fire to at least four vehicles, including an excavator, belonging to the Joint Stock Company Industrial Association, a Delhi-based road construction firm that is currently constructing the Nongstoiñ-Wahkaji road.
According to Satish Kumar, the project manager overseeing operations of the company in the area, the arson attack occurred around 4:15 am at the company’s employee quarters at Ladweitang, Nongstoiñ.
Three vehicles parked at the employee quarters were damaged and include a Maruti Gypsy, a Bolero Pickup, and a Mahindra XUV. Further, the miscreants set fire to a JCB excavator parked in Mawthungkper.
It may be mentioned that in the recent past, a number of road construction vehicles of the company have been torched by miscreants.
On August 7, 2023, miscreants set fire to a dumper truck and a transit mixer at the road project camp in Mawthungkper.
Similarly, on October 23, 2022 a truck used for transporting materials was set ablaze by miscreants at Rangblang Pombriew village, South West Khasi Hills.
The road from Nongstoiñ to Wahkaji after completion will connect the two districts of West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills.
