Four teenagers and two adults were killed in a terrible road traffic accident in Tuber Sohshrieh yesterday night after the pickup truck they were travelling in crashed into an Assam-registered truck.
All six deceased were from Mynso village in West Jaintia Hills.
The dead were identified as father-son duo Jeri Dkhar (45) and Sainbor Phai (15), brothers Lad Phai (22) and Thio Phai (17), Sylbester Suiam (13) and Hamedahun Phai (15). The bodies of the victims were returned to their families following post-mortem examinations at Khliehriat Community Health Centre.
Several others were injured in the accident. Those who have been identified are Arbi Pale, Embhahlang Suiam, Romitre Kya, Kynsailang Myrchiang, Daturoi Dkhar, Pius Kya (all of whom were taken to NEIGRIHMS in Shillong for treatment), Regina Dhar (Woodland Hospital in Jowai) and Ha-u-ni Chyrmang (Shillong Civil Hospital).
According to reports, there were 20 people in the pickup when the incident took place.
