Four police personnel from Meghalaya were today awarded with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the eve of Independence Day.
The four were Commandant of the 6th Battalion of Meghalaya Police, Lakador Syiem, West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Bikram D Marak, Deputy Commandant of the 4th Battalion Thulisserryl C Chacko and Armed Branch Inspector Galdinson R Marak.
Meanwhile, two Home Guards personnel have been conferred the Meritorious Services Medals. They are Kharnesh A Sangma (Sub-Inspector) and Timothy Marbaniang (Havildar).
Two officials of the Department of Prisons and Correctional Service have been conferred the Correctional Service Medals. They are Pranab Kr Das (Assistant Superintendent) and Sushil Baruah (Warder).
A total of 1,082 police personnel have been awarded police medals on the occasion of Independence Day.
Of the 347 gallantry awards, 204 personnel received the recognition for their gallant action in Jammu and Kashmir, 80 personnel in left wing extremism-affected areas and 14 personnel in the North East region.
Among the personnel receiving gallantry awards, 109 are from Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), 108 from the J&K Police, 19 from the Border Security Force, 42 from Maharashtra, 15 from Chhattisgarh.
Yesterday, it was also announced that Deputy Superintendent of Police Pyrkhatlang Suchiang will receive the Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation.
