As many as four shops were burnt to ashes when fire broke out in Bagli LCS point under South West Khasi Hills district, causing considerable damage.
The incident took place last night at around 12. The fire is estimated to have caused a loss of lakhs of rupees.
While the exact cause of the fire is yet unknown, the stores that include groceries and motor parts of shopkeepers Talish D Marak, Binat Sangma, Lipin D Marak and Binet Sangma were destroyed in the fire.
Meanwhile, the All Khasi Hills Achik Federation (AKHAF) has urged authorities to help the affected shopkeepers.
