Four illegal migrants from Bangladesh slipped into Shillong before being arrested by police at the old Anjalee Petrol Pump here on New Year’s Day.
After receiving information, police began checking vehicles at the location and detained four individuals who were travelling in a tourist taxi (ML 05X 6502). The four Bangladeshi nationals were identified as Akhtar Sheikh, Rupa Begum, Raju Ali (60) and Taijul Islam (27). The ages of the first two individuals were not provided by police.
The driver of the tourist taxi was identified as TN Sohshang.
Police believe that the illegal migrants entered Indian territory at Nongjri village in East Khasi Hills with the intention of proceeding towards Jammu and Kashmir.
