The KVK West Khasi Hills at Nongshillong organised a four-day training programme for extension personnel on ‘Value Addition for Important Crops’ from July 9 to 12.
Thirty-four field functionaries working in agriculture and allied fields from Eastern West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills took part.
Training covered during the programme were the concept of value addition – scope and opportunities, value added products and approaches, which was delivered by scientist EK Marbaniang.
Cultivation practices of recent crops such as buckwheat and millet were delivered by agronomist M Marak. Awareness regarding government schemes on food processing was also imparted by F Lyngkhoi. Furthermore, a lecture about food processing techniques and methods including value added products of buckwheat, millet and mushroom were imparted to the trainees by resource person home scientist E Shadap from KVK East Khasi Hills.
On July 12 an exposure visit to KVK East Khasi Hills was organised. The trainees were exposed to various tools and implements used during food processing including cabinet dryer, solar dryer and other value added products of buckwheat, millet, sohiong and chow chow.
