Mawkyrwat, Aug 17: On the occasion of Independence Day, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Ranikor civil sub-division, on behalf of the district administration of South West Khasi Hills, felicitated four brave officers who demonstrated exemplary cooperation with the police and the Border Security Force (BSF) in successfully apprehending illegal timber smugglers from Bangladesh.
The success of this operation was made possible through the collective effort and valuable support of residents from seven villages, namely Rongdangai, Khonjoy-A, Khonjoy-B, Chibak, Kaitakona, Gilagora and Majisora.
On August 10, at Chibak village, a location known for its stone quarries, these four brave officers were instrumental in the operation that led to the arrest of three timber smugglers from Bangladesh. The officers who received recognition for their bravery and dedication to duty are Inspector Cryster Ch Marak, CI (S) & Officer In-Charge, Ranikor Police Station, UBC/34 Dapborlin Wanniang, Havilder Daniel Sangma, 4th MLP (IR) Battalion, No. 4, BNC/379 Hellim Sangma, 4th MLP (IR) Battalion, No. 4 Platoon.
These officers, attached to Ranikor Police Station have exemplified courage, commitment and a deep sense of responsibility in safeguarding public welfare, an official press release stated today. The active cooperation between local communities, the police and the BSF has underscored the spirit of unity in ensuring peace and security in the district and the nation as a whole, it added.
As part of the felicitation ceremony, certificates and mementoes were presented to the police personnel, BSF and the participating villages by Umsning MLA Celestine Lyngdoh and Ranikor MLA-MDC Pius Marweiñ in the presence of LT Tariang, Additional Deputy Commissioner, S Marweiñ, Block Development Officer of Ranikor, along with local leaders and residents.
