Ri-Bhoi police arrested four men in possession of a quantity of heroin last night.
The police from Umsning, acting on a tip-off, conducted checking of vehicles at Umran Dairy at, around 3:30am, detained a Maruti Alto (ML 05 E 0804). The vehicle was carrying four persons – Klevin Malngiang (the driver) of Mawlai, Frederick Ryntathiang of Pynthor, Bankit Marbaniang of Lumshyiap and Shanbor Rani of Nongmynsong. They were found with 65.71g of heroin in their possession.
The drugs were contained within seven soap boxes and four vials. Furthermore, Rs 34,370 in cash was seized from the vehicle, along with four mobile phones and three syringes.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act is being taken up against the four suspects.
