A total of 375 candidates passed the nomination scrutiny today.
The scrutiny of nomination papers filed by 379 candidates was conducted in all 12 districts across 60 Assembly constituencies of the State.
Post scrutiny against 379 nominations filed, 375 nominations were found to be valid.
Of these, 339 are male candidates and 36 are female candidates.
Four nominations were found invalid. Three of them belong to the NPP and one to UDP.
Their nomination papers were rejected as they were deemed as dummy candidates.
The three NPP candidates whose nomination papers were rejected are Ailad Bhoi (Jowai), Hambertus Nongtdu (Sutnga Saipung) and Violet Lyngdoh (Khliehriat).
The nomination papers of UDP candidate from Khliehriat, Stonely Shylla were also found invalid.
After today’s scrutiny, East Khasi Hills has the largest number of candidates at 116. Of these 14 are women.
West Garo Hills has 69 candidates of whom four are women. Ri-Bhoi has 35 candidates, seven of whom are women.
The number of candidates in other districts is – West Jaiñtia Hills (26), North Garo Hills (24), West Khasi Hills (21), South West Khasi Hills (16), East Garo Hills (16), South Garo Hills (16), South West Garo Hills (12), East Jaiñtia Hills (10), Eastern West Khasi Hills (9).
However, the final number of candidates will be known on February 10 which is the last date for withdrawal of candidature.
