The Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills has warned the public against being lured into performing sexual acts on video calls with strangers after were received complaints of extortion and blackmail.
In a release today, Sylvester Nongtnger said that the modus operandi that female fraudsters (or at least those pretending to be women) use is to send friend requests to their targets on Facebook or communicate through other forms of social media and ask for their Whatsapp numbers.
“On getting the phone number, the fraudsters seduce the victim for a video call and entice them to get them involved into sexual activity. The fraudsters meanwhile record all these activities and later blackmail the victim by asking payment from them,” the SP said.
