The United Democratic Party (UDP) has suddenly find itself in a tight spot ahead of the Lok Sabha elections as 31 of its top leaders in Ri Bhoi district today decided to quit.
The announcement was made by Working President Donbok Khymdeit at a press conference. He cited no reasons on the decision taken but said, “We are not offended by anyone but we have worked for the betterment of the state and we will continue to do so.”
He said the leaders have not made any decision to join any party.
Besides Khymdeit, the leaders are Chief Adviser Raphael Massar, Adviser Rangkynsai R Makdoh, Joint Secretary Women’s Wing Queen Mary Rymbai, Auditor Biolkingstar Tmung, leaders of the youth wing, executive members and others.
The UDP backed by the HSPDP under the umbrella of the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) have fielded Robertjune Kharjahrin to fight the elections from the Shillong parliamentary seat.
