East Jaiñtia Hills district is currently facing major power outages as 30 transformers lie damaged.
This was informed by the MePDCL executive engineer of Moowakhu, Khliehriat Distribution Division, H. Iacasis to a delegation of the Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP), Khliehriat circle today.
The organisation led by circle president, Michal Chyrmang had met the executive engineer to take up the case of a damaged power transformer at Lumsiatthong in Khliehriat West, which was left unrepaired for at least two week.
According to Chyrmang, the officer said that the issue was taken up at the head office.
Expressing concern over the state of affairs the FKJGP leader questioned how the MeECL does not have backup transformers for replacement when there are damage complaints.
“Where is the money collected in the form of electricity bills from consumers? Whey it cannot be used to purchase new transformers?” he further questioned.
Demanding quick restoration of power in Khliehriat the FKJGP further urged the power department and MLA, Kyrmen Shylla to take up the matter to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
