Altogether 30 youth of Meghalaya were provided with jobs in various hospitality sectors under ‘Project Buniyaad’ of the Honda India Foundation (HIF), the CSR arm of Honda Group Companies in India.
Of the 30 individuals selected for placement, five have already secured employment at two hotels in Shillong.
Launched in February 2024, the project aims to uplift unemployed youth from marginalized communities by equipping them with skills relevant to the hospitality sector. In partnership with Visan Foundation, participants received two months of intensive training in Hospitality Management, culminating in certification from the Tourism & Hospitality Skill Council.
In Meghalaya, the project was implemented with the active support of the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) through its training partner, Don Bosco Technical School. This collaborative approach ensured targeted outreach, quality training, and real opportunities for placement.
Since its inception, the project has trained and placed over 1,500 youth across key regions including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, Jammu & Kashmir, and Meghalaya.
The appointed letters to the selected youth were handed over at a valedictory ceremony of the project which was attended by MSSDS Executive Director Ramkumar Sathurappan.
In his address, Ramkumar emphasised the transformational power of employment and international placement. “If enough youth from Meghalaya go abroad for jobs, the economy of our state could be transformed—just like Kerala. We have already seen this with candidates placed in Japan and Singapore through MSSDS’ Overseas Placement Programme, many of whom now send home over Rs 1 lakh a month,” he noted.
Managing Director of Honda India Foundation, Sangeeta Ranjit highlighted the growing global demand in hospitality. “There is a huge difference between getting a job and building a career. Through projects like Buniyaad, our youth are being equipped not just for local roles, but for opportunities worldwide,” she said, acknowledging the powerful partnership between the Government of Meghalaya, Honda India Foundation, and Don Bosco Technical School.
