It may have replaced the Congress in power, but the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government has not delivered anything new to Meghalaya in the last three years, opposition legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh said today.
“I need the MDA government to categorically tell me what is it that they have done that they can call their own and which sector they have seen standing out in compared to what the previous government did,” the former minister said to Highland Post.
The MDA government is particularly vulnerable to criticism when it comes to corruption, the East Shillong MLA said.
“There is the rampant illegal transportation of coal and complete failure of traffic management and we continue to see disrupting traffic flows in the city because of the thousands of trucks involved in the illegal transportation of coal,” she alleged.
Other failings, according to her, include those in the power sector, which has seen the state reduced to several hours of load shedding per day, and inflation due to the rise in fuel prices.
“Even though this government had big challenges because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it appears that the government’s attempts to combat the pandemic were clouded by controversies of mismanagement of funds,” Lyngdoh said, adding that this was not only the perception of the Congress Party, but of the public, who discuss such matters in public forums every day.
