The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam police today arrested three persons from Meghalaya in Sundarpur area of Guwahati for possession of fake Indian currency notes.
A total of 46 pieces of counterfeit notes of Rs 500 denomination valued at Rs 23,000 were discovered inside a Bolero vehicle bearing registration number ML-06-8742.
Two of the arrested have been identified as Ariven K. Marwein (31) and Shembok Nongsiej (37) both hailing from West Khasi Hills. The third individual is yet to be identified.
Police also recovered four mobile phones and a stack of white-coloured paper, believed to be used in the production of the counterfeit notes.
A criminal case has been registered against the trio at the Dispur police station.
