The Central Bureau of Communication, Shillong, wrapped up a three-day event dedicated to promoting cleanliness and nutrition awareness as well as honouring martyrs.
This initiative was hosted at Alpha English Higher Secondary School here and the closing ceremony was attended by local MLA Mayralborn Syiem. Alpha English Principal WK Blah, CBC officer Gopajit Das and others were also present.
The closing ceremony commenced with a symbolic act of planting saplings, symbolising the growth and nurturing of essential values. Subsequently, participants who excelled in various competitions held during these three days, focusing on the Swachh Bharat (Clean India) Mission, Poshan Abhiyan (Nutrition Campaign) and Meri Mati Mera Desh (for honouring martyrs), were awarded prizes.
During his address at the event’s conclusion, Syiem commended the CBC, an arm of the Union Ministry of Communication and Broadcasting, for its role in highlighting the need for cleanliness and nutrition. He stated that it is evident that we still have a long way to go in terms of improving cleanliness and malnutrition remains a critical issue for pregnant women and children.
Syiem underlined that such events serve as a catalyst for positive change, benefiting the population of Ri-Bhoi.
In the inter-school science exhibition competition, Alpha English, with the theme Clean, Hygienic & Sustainable Community, secured first, St Paul’s Hr Sec School Nongpoh (Homemade Water Purifier) bagged second while Auxilium Umpohliew Jingstad Hr Sec School Mawtnum with the model on Swacch Bharat came third.
In the inter-school quiz, Alpha English came first, St John’s Secondary School Jyntru and Auxilium Umpohliew secured second and third positions respectively.
