Three men were convicted of crimes committed against children in West Jaiñtia and West Khasi Hills district, police said.
In West Jaiñtia Hills, the Special Judge (POCSO) sentenced one Lucky Dhar to three years rigorous imprisonment for sexual assault on a 10-year old in 2019.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5000. Dhar committed the crime on March 31, 2019 and a case was registered at Amlarem police station.
In West Khasi Hills, the court there sentenced one Rishan Marwein to 20 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 30,000 was imposed for sexual assault on a minor in 2020.
The court also sentenced one Himborlin Puwein for a similar crime committed in 2017.
Puwein was also sentenced to 20 years rigorous imprisonment with Rs 50,000 fine for the offence under section 6 of POCSO Act and another one year with fine of Rs1000 for offence under section 506 Part-II IPC. Both the served sentences are to run concurrently, the court said.
Both the cases were lodged at Nongstoiñ Women Police Station.
