Shillong, Feb 14: The Football for Schools (F4S) Programme under the Ministry of Education in collaboration with FIFA was organised at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Rymbai, the nodal centre for East Jaintia Hills District.
A total of 112 FIFA footballs were distributed to 29 schools of East Jaintia Hills District.
The initiative aims to make football more accessible to school students by integrating the sport into the education system while promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and holistic development.
The event underscored the importance of sports in education and highlighted the Government’s commitment to youth development through national and international collaboration.
The football distribution ceremony was attended by the District School Education Officer (DSEO) R. Diengdoh in the presence of Principal of JNV Rymbai Dr. R. Kumar, along with other officials, teachers and others.
Addressing the gathering, Diengdoh said the collaboration between the Ministry of Education and FIFA is a significant step toward strengthening sports culture in schools. He emphasized that football is not merely a sport but a platform for instilling vital life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. He appreciated the enthusiasm among the students and expressed confidence that the programme would inspire many to actively engage in sports activity.
The programme concluded with the formal kick-off by the chief guest, marking the successful launch of the initiative in the district.
Other highlights of the programme included cultural dance performances by students and a friendly football match between the students of JNV Rymbai and participating schools.
