The body of a 22-year old woman from the village of Borshibandha was allegedly fished out from a pond within the village which only had knee deep water.
The incident, which apparently took place early morning yesterday, has drawn fingers to the family of the 22 year old’s husband and his family with a FIR being lodged against them of complicity to murder.
Police later arrested the husband, identified as Hashibul in the case after complaints of foul play in the death surfaced.
According to the FIR filed by the family of the victim, they were informed that that victim, Amisha Begum, had drowned in a river near her house in Borshibandha. However when they went to the spot of the incident, the family members found the husband of the victim and his family near the place where she drowned.
As per sources, the place where the victim drowned had only knee deep water and when her body was fished out, her tongue was out of her mouth, which pointed at foul play.
“When we asked them as to what happened, they told us that Amisha had sunk into the river and drowned. However the river is not really a river but water collected due to rains in agricultural land. How can she drown in such a place? It is just cultivated land where rain water has been blocked,” asked the FIR by the victim’s family.
The FIR by the family named the husband, identified as Hashibul and his family of foul play and murder of the 22 year old and sought an investigation into the matter. They further alleged that the victim had earlier been tortured by her husband and her family prior to the murder.
Confirming the murder in question, the superintendent of police, West Garo Hills, Dr MGR Kumar said that the matter was under investigation.
“Prima facie, there seems foul play involved. A case has been registered and we are investigating the matter. The husband has been arrested and questioning is currently on,” said Dr Kumar.
Meanwhile the body of the 22 year old victim has also been sent for Post Mortem to determine the cause of death.
