Two people from Tura have been arrested by police in West Garo Hills after they were caught red-handed in the possession of a large amount of psychotropic substances.
According to information received, the Anti Narcotics Trafficking Force (ANTF) arrested two suppliers identified as Ashit Modak (28, of Sepoy Colony) and Christon Sangma (of Akhonggre) and recovered a huge quantity of drugs from them.
The raid on the premises of the two peddlers led to the recovery of more than 900 capsules and tablets, the majority of which is believed to be methamphetamines.
“A case has been registered under NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act with all legal formalities being observed after the arrest. We are also investigating the entire process and are hopeful of nabbing more members of the same supply syndicate,” informed Superintendent of Police MGR Kumar.
While one of the accused, Sangma has been arrested and forwarded to court, Ashit has been sent to quarantine after he tested positive for Covid-19 after being arrested. He is currently receiving treatment.
