The West Jaiñtia Hills District Session Judge today has sentenced a man to 12 years rigorous imprisonment for sexual assault on a woman.
Murtibiang Surong had committed the crime on November 17, 2016. A case was registered in Amlarem police station which was investigated by WPSI O. Tyngkan.
The court found him guilty and was convicted under section 376 IPC. Surong has to also pay a fine of Rs.50, 000.
Meanwhile, the court of the Special Judge (POCSO), West Jaiñtia Hills on June 28 convicted one Francis Suchiang and sentenced him to four years rigorous imprisonment for sexual assault on a minor.
Suchiang had committed the crime in November 2017. A FIR was lodged in February, 2018 in Jowai police station, which was investigated by WPSI. R.M.Suchiang.
The convict has to also pay a fine of Rs.6000 and in default of payment of fine he will have to undergo two months simple imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs. 2000, the court said. In default of payment of he shall undergo one month simple imprisonment, it added.
