Two persons were injured while lighting a fire to burn the effigy of Ravana during the Dussehra ceremony in the premises of Dalmia Cement Company located at Thangskai.
A video clip of the mishap which is being circulated shows people gathered near the effigy to light it, when flames suddenly flared up which immediately caught two persons.
The injured have been identified as Senior Manager (Mechanical) Kedar Mal Maheshwari and a Security Guard Deepak. They have been taken to Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati for medical attention.
Authorities of the company refused to speak about the incident, but sources said the incident happened yesterday after the immersion of idols.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that police in East Jaiñtia Hills has been attempting to contact the Dalmia Cement plant to gather further details about the incident but with no response so far. However, police said investigation is on.
Every year, Dussehra is celebrated to commemorate the triumph of good over evil as Lord Rama killed Ravana. The festival is celebrated in full swing across the country, by burning the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkaran, and Meghnath.
